Logan Hospital redevelopment: Stage One complete
How do you expand a community hospital into one of Queensland’s largest healthcare hubs while ensuring continuous operation?
Innovative and evidence-based healthcare is now closer to home for Queensland residents in the growth corridor between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, with construction nearing completion on the centrepiece building in Stage 1 of Logan Hospital’s redevelopment.
Our four-floor vertical expansion and reinvigoration of the original hospital signals a new era in the evolution of a wellbeing-oriented campus. The $460 million project is billed as a ‘significant transformation’ and ‘one of the state’s largest ever hospital expansions’*.
Ensuring the building is open, light and generous improves the healthcare experience for patients, visitors and staff
Senior Practice Director, Sam Wightley.
Built above the recently completed emergency department, this first phase increases Logan’s capacity with over 200 new beds and adds a cardiac ward, coronary care unit, ICU department, medical assessment and planning unit, general medical ward, palliative care ward and new treatment spaces. Clinical, support and operational service areas are also undergoing major refurbishment. We worked closely with John Holland (builder) so Logan’s service delivery could be maintained through construction.
With Logan’s culturally-diverse population forecast to grow rapidly**, BVN’s robust master plan for integrated health and community services supports collaborative connection, efficiency and future growth.
These are the sort of complex puzzles that we're used to solving in the healthcare sector by coming up with solutions that enable the hospital to remain fully functional while also considering how original infrastructure can be replaced stage by stage to meet future demand.
