Mind the Gap: Menopause in the Workplace
Why? Because open conversations can improve our lives and work.
As part of our efforts to close the ‘gender pay gap’ and keep women advancing in our practice, we’re launching Mind the Gap – an event series and platform for important conversations on subjects that are topical, sometimes controversial and too often invisible or unspoken.
More than just talks, Mind the Gap events aim to share evidence-based knowledge to build awareness. Using these events as a springboard, we're opening channels of ongoing communication and support so practitioners can be better informed and more empathetic with their colleagues, peers, family members and friends.
Through this initiative, we’re exploring avenues for shared understanding while advocating for holistic health and wellbeing in the workplace – and beyond.
Head of People and Character, Brian Clohessy.
Mind the Gap events are open to all BVN practitioners and their partners – in the studio or online. We also warmly extend an invitation to our peers and industry organisations to follow the series online – either by attending via Teams or viewing the video recordings.
Ultimately, Mind the Gap events are about cultivating connections, supporting practitioners, enriching workplace culture and shaping positive change for the industry.
For our first Mind the Gap events, we’re presenting a two-part focus on Menopause in the Workplace in association with the Australian Menopause Society.
Event 1: Menopause Awareness

Dr Liz Rayment joins us for this important lunchtime talk on menopause – including perimenopause as well as early and premature menopause. You'll learn about the range of symptoms and diverse effects women experience while looking at lifestyle factors that can assist in managing this transition. Dr Liz will also outline hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options as well as evidence-based complementary therapies.
Dr Elizabeth Rayment is a highly qualified specialist GP who takes a holistic approach to helping women achieve optimal wellbeing, particularly in midlife and menopause. Her education at Imperial College London and diplomas from the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Faculty of Family Planning, together with specialized GP training in both the UK and Australia, have equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of obstetrics, gynaecology, and women's health issues. Elizabeth is involved with the Australasian and the British Menopause Societies and serves on the NSW Menopause Task Force Clinician Reference Group. As a Board- Certified Lifestyle Medicine Physician, she empowers women to manage their women's health symptoms through evidence-based medicine and lifestyle interventions.
Event 2: Mid-life Health and Work
Register for the talk on Eventbrite.
Dr Amie Hanlon joins us to continue our focus on menopause and midlife heath at work as part of our new Mind the Gap wellbeing series. In this evidence-based talk, Dr Amie will outline self-management coping strategies and preventative interventions for healthy aging. Together, we’ll also investigate managerial skills and workplace adjustments to support those experiencing menopause.
Dr Amie Hanlon is an obstetrician and gynaecologist who has been in private practice since receiving her fellowship from RANZCOG in early 2016. Amie is the Queensland member representative Director of the Australasian Menopause Society Board. In her time as a private gynaecologist, Amie has been privileged to witness the vast improvement in quality of life that a personalised approach to the management of the perimenopause can bring, and truly enjoys guiding women through their menopausal transition as one of the clinicians at the multidisciplinary Menopause Centre in Greenslopes, Brisbane. Amie also has a special interest in paediatric and adolescent gynaecology, having undertaken a fellowship year in this field as part of her training.
We look forward to hearing your perspectives in these important conversations as we work together to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment.
