BVN celebrates in London at the SCCI Architecture Hub
News of the first big award wins for Quay Quarter Tower hit London mid month, just as we began a long weekend of talks, events and ideas known as the Sherman Centre for Culture and Ideas Architecture Hub.
Hosted by Dr Gene Sherman – Australian philanthropist and long-time collaborator of BVN – it was a celebration of architecture and fashion. Held, aptly, at the Design Museum, London.
In the company of around 300 like-minded lovers of design, Quay Quarter Tower was a hot topic, sparking debate around adaptive re-use to revive cities like London.
It was a timely debate. London, like every other major city, is struggling to rebound post COVID. It’s setting the news agenda for British media. With so many untenanted buildings, Quay Quarter Tower offers cause for hope. Designed as it is, as an upcycled building, with a speedy return to market.
Supported by DFAT and the British Council, the recent SCCI event brought together pioneering ideas for knowledge-sharing and creative thinking in response to the climate and COVID crises.
BVN co-hosted the Architecture Hub Launch Party and welcomed peers from across the industry in London and Sydney.
The conversation showed there’s much to discuss with our London colleagues. Themes of upcycling and repurposing, and of mindful, sustainable materials permeated the talkfest. Expect to hear about new ideas and collaborations in the coming weeks!
As cities grapple with issues of sustainability, hybrid working, and what to do with aging CBD buildings, our SCCI week was a great moment of ideas and optimism.
