2019 NSW Architecture Awards shortlist announced
The NSW Architecture awards shortlist was released on May 1 with two Sydney projects shortlisted across four categories.
Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School is shortlisted in the Educational Architecture, Interior Architecture and Sustainable Architecture categories, while Emblem is shortlisted in the Residential Architecture - Multiple Housing category.
Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School is a new K-6 school for 420 students in North Strathfield. The design is a realisation of the school’s vision of creating spaces that invite imagination, innovation and support independent learning and student wellbeing. The project reuses a rundown 1970s brutalist former Telstra training centre and includes the addition of a 4-storey atrium as main entry connecting all learning areas, a new hall, arts space, balconies and roof-top playgrounds in prefabricated mass-timber construction.

Emblem is a new 22-storey residential tower in Waterloo and is the central and connecting element of a large urban rejuvenation that includes two smaller residential buildings designed by different architects. A distinctive series of interlocking forms and mirrored voids through the building’s façade enable views, natural light, ventilation and gardens that extend vertically through the main tower lobby and upper floors. An elevated park on level 8 offers residents a recreational space with views across the adjoining Wulaba Park to the city skyline and beyond.
