2018 National Architecture Awards

The Australian Institute of Architect’s President Clare Cousins relayed the figures associated with the 2018 Architecture Awards programme to the audience at the National Architecture Awards event in Melbourne on 1 November 2018.

There were 975 entries into the awards programme that starts off at a State level and from those entries the State and Territory Chapter appointed juries gave 203 Awards. All Chapter award winners become automatically eligible for inclusion into the national judging. The national jury shortlisted 70 projects from that 203 and last night they presented 32 awards and gave 8 commendations.

BVN picked up two of those awards, the Jorn Utzon Award for International Architecture for the Australian Embassy in Bangkok and a Sustainable Architecture Award for Synergy. A commendation was given for Interior Architecture to the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre (GCSLC).

These three national architecture awards and commendation are added to the eleven awards BVN received at the Chapter level making a total of fourteen awards and commendations received in the 2018 Architecture Awards programme.

As Ms Cousins noted last night the Architecture Awards conducted by the RAIA that includes a rigorous peer review and inspection of shortlisted entries, is considered the most prestigious architecture awards programme in Australia.
